Dr. William Barry Lee, MD, FACS, is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in cornea and refractive surgery having received distinguished fellowship training in cornea surgery, cataract & lens implant surgery, and laser vision correction including LASIK, LASEK, and PRK.
A native of Kentucky, Dr. Lee graduated Phi Beta Kappa and highest distinction from the University of Kentucky, where he remained to earn a medical degree with highest distinction. He completed an internship in Spartanburg, South Carolina, followed by a surgical ophthalmology residency upon return to the University of Kentucky where he was selected by the ophthalmology faculty to serve as the Chief Resident in his final year. Following completion of residency, Dr. Lee was chosen for a fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery at the prestigious University of California, Davis Department of Ophthalmology in Sacramento, California. He served as clinical instructor for the teaching of resident ophthalmologists during his time in California while gaining extensive experience in corneal and refractive surgery.
In addition to an active clinical ophthalmology practice, Dr. Lee continues to participate in ophthalmic research with over 50 published works in peer-reviewed scientific journals along with scientific meeting presentations and teaching courses in the United States and other countries. Additionally, he has authored 13 book chapters on cornea and refractive surgery while maintaining a research focus on new techniques in corneal surgery and refractive surgery. Dr. Lee volunteers as one of the medical directors of the Georgia Eye Bank and has been selected by the American Board of Ophthalmology to serve as an annual board examiner for ophthalmologists in training. He is a member of numerous professional societies and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He also serves as a mentor in the teaching of cornea specialists in Georgia through the cornea fellowship program at Eye Consultants of Atlanta and Piedmont Hospital.
Dr. Lee has gained extensive experience in cornea and refractive surgery through both his distinguished training and a large consultative cornea / refractive practice where he routinely sees patients from Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina. He is Georgia’s only refractive surgeon with certification on all FDA-approved excimer lasers and both the blade-free Intralase LASIK and LDV Ziemer all-laser LASIK.
